Résumé

We obtained cross-sectional repeated measures self-report survey data on workplace safety and health and wellness from newer, early-to-mid-career New Jersey (NJ) secondary or high school (HS) teachers supervising work-based learning on- and off-campus in specific career clusters within career-technical-vocational education. This cohort study in the 2021-2024 school years (SYs) is a unique opportunity. It immediately proceeded the 2019-2021 SYs. Due to COVID-19, most 2020 2nd semester (3/18-6/30/2020) and 2020-2021 SY in-person classes went online;extracurricular activities were cancelled or substantially altered for online/virtual substitutes;and, no-to-little in-person HS teaching and off- or on-campus activities. Upon return 8-9/2021, classrooms, labs, shops, etc. were cleaned. Data suggested risks of human exposure to chemical agents from cleaning, disinfecting and sanitation consumer products use, given concerns about viral (and bacterial) loads collecting and potentially remaining on frequently contacted surfaces. We present study design, recruitment data, and selected survey content responses from ongoing research 2021-2024. © 2022 17th International Conference on Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2022. Résumé

India announced a severe and phase wise nationwide lockdown on March 24, 2020. In India, COVID-19's second wave began in the middle of March 2021. In contrast to the first wave of COVID-19, the second wave was characterized by a sharp rise in the number of cases, a decline in the availability of needed treatments, and a rise in mortality, particularly among the young population.Studying the biochemical and clinical variations between the first and second waves of COVID-19 in India is essential given the clear discrepancies between them. In a tertiary care L3 institution in Ghaziabad, the biochemical and pathological biomarkers and their changes in the first and second waves of COVID-19 were investigated. Based on the patient's severity condition, reports of hematological and biochemical parameters from the admitted patients were retrospectively collated for statistical analysis and were compared between the lstwave and 2nd waveofCOVID-19. In contrast to TLC, total protein, and globulin in the second wave, PCV and sodium showed a significant difference between COVID-19 severity classes in the first wave. In all COVID-19 severity classes, the liver enzymes SGOT and SGPT were considerably higher in the second wave than the first wave. Our study concluded that the second wave of COVID-19 has affected liver function more severely than the first wave in Ghaziabad. TLC has emerged as a better marker for distinguishing severe cases from mild cases in the second waveofCOVID-19.

Résumé

Decades of research on differences in the language of men and women have established postulates about preferences in lexical, topical, and emotional expression between the two genders, along with their sociological underpinnings. Using a novel dataset of male and female linguistic productions collected from the Reddit discussion platform, we further confirm existing assumptions about gender-linked affective distinctions, and demonstrate that these distinctions are amplified in social media postings involving emotionally-charged discourse related to COVID-19. Our analysis also confirms considerable differences in topical preferences between male and female authors in spontaneous pandemic-related discussions. © ACL 2020.All right reserved.

Résumé

The pathogenesis of the SARS-CoV-2 virus responsible for COVID-19 disease is ever unravelling. Researchers are continuously generating evidence regarding the mechanism of the infection and its complications. There is also an attempt to understand the role of various biomolecules in preventing or treating COVID-19 disease and its complications. Trials show that Vitamin D decreases the rate of admission in ICU. Vitamin C is known to exert the positive influence in decreasing the intensity of viral infections and severe sepsis. Vitamin B12 plays a pivotal role in gut microbiome management. Dietary supplementation of micronutrients with defined roles in immune function can streamline the balance of the body's immune reaction, lessening the incidence of infections and ICU hospital stay. The focus of this review is to apply our modern knowledge of vitamin D, B12 and C as micronutrients & facilitator of immune competence. We suggest that vitamins D, B12 and C may serve as attenuators to COVID-19 symptoms. Large randomized trials are required to confirm this hypothesis.

Résumé

M tuberculosis mainly infects the lungs, which is known as pulmonary tuberculosis, but it can infect other organs also such as the gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system, lymph nodes, bones, joints, urinary tract, and other sites, which is known as extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Drug-resistant M. tuberculosis isolates are a serious threat to TB control because only a few effective drugs are available for the treatment of this disease. Directly observed treatment short course (DOTS) is the main pillar employed for the control of tuberculosis under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) in India. Treatment of tuberculosis either drug-sensitive or drug-resistant involves drugs that are potentially hepatotoxic and may lead to drug-induced liver injury (DILI). Research has noticed the inevitability and cyclicity of pandemics during the last two centuries and highlighted it through smallpox, Tuberculosis, Plague, Influenza, HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and COVID-19.(18)

Résumé

Rationale: COVID-19 has a wide range of clinical presentations requiring a high index of suspicion for diagnosing patients presenting with extrapulmonary manifestations. Among them, patients with cardiovascular involvement have a high mortality.<br>Patient's concerns: A 50-year-old male patient with COVID-19 infection presented with multiple syncopal episodes, myalgia, and mild respiratory symptoms.<br>Diagnosis: Mild COVID-19 infection with complete heart block.<br>Interventions: Temporary pacing followed by permanent pacemaker insertion 10 days after the onset.<br>Outcomes: The patient was managed as per COVID-19 protocol in an isolation ward, and his condition improved but remained pacemaker dependent until a repeat RT-PCR for COVID-19 tested negative, after which he was shifted back to the cardiac care unit for permanent pacemaker insertion. The patient was discharged after inflammatory markers were normal and clinical condition was completely stable.<br>Lessons: COVID-19 has a wide range of clinical presentations, and extrapulmonary manifestations, especially, cardiovascular involvement can not be ignored.

Résumé

Secondary or high school (HS) educational professionals expressed concerns about dealing with environmental and occupational health and safety protocols due to COVID-19. Concerns related to fall 2020 school re-opening and getting back into in-person teaching-whether full-time, part-time or some other approved hybrid model-plus ongoing uncertainty with how the state and federal government will be handling matters about mandates for virtual learning, rapid testing, vaccine distribution, etc. These concerns were related to both their experience as educational professionals and genuine interest in personal and student well-being. This study was a cross-sectional online survey in early fall from mid-September-early October 2020. Of a possible maximum participation of 740 New Jersey (NJ) supervisory-level HS teachers and administrators (e.g., department chairs, district and school principals), 100 confirmed unique respondents (13.5%) consented and completed the survey. Of 100 experienced (mean 18 years teaching) participants, 70% responded to the gender identity question (overall, 61% female, 39% male;by NJ region, gender ratios were similar). There were statistically significant differences (using Fischer's exact test) between NJ regions regarding provision of online counseling and support services for teachers (p < 0.001);for resources and equipment for teachers to mediate online learning (p = 0.02);for assistive video technology tools (p = 0.03) and accessibility to structured online learning and professional development (p = 0.002);concerning learning aids to engage students in online instruction, online counseling, and support services for students and their families (p = 0.006);appropriate protocol is clean and disinfect areas used by a person with COVID-19 (p = 0.002);and, immediately separate staff and students who screen positive for COVID-19 (p = 0.03). There were few statistical differences by gender. This study reported what participants wanted regarding the development of future policies then implemented as reopening practices. Data can inform recommendations in NJ and elsewhere at federal, state, and local levels. Data provide new insights and valuable information to inform the consideration of acceptability of various policy measures among HS education professionals.
